Possible Problem

Yahoo Message Number: 9231
My Seneca has been in storage since February with a battery minder and plugged in to a 20A circuit. This is a covered storage, actually a garage type building.

I noticed several days ago that something is leaking from the cooling stack, appears to be coolant. This leak is about One (1) drop per day. very, very small. It does get hot inside this unit. Here in the Phoenix area, it is consistantly over 100 degrees.

Is this something to worry about or is it something to do with the heat?
With such a small leak, nothing appears low or needs refilling.

Thanks,
Bob

Bob . . . I had a similar leak that eventually got worse. This may or may not be the same thing. It didn't happen when the engine was hot and under pressure--rather, it typically leaked in the morning when the engine was cold and the radiator started warming up the antifreeze from the day's heat. The problem was a weeping radiator large "O" ring type seal/gasket. As you may know, these radiators are assembled in parts. I eventually replaced the radiator. Others have had this problem. You can live with it if you want.

I had a similar problem that turned out to be a leak at the lower radiator hose connection. I put a second hose clamp on next to the original, which fixed it.

I have just got my THIRD radiator put in again this week. GMC sucks! They now know they have a problem and have a new design on the radiator....$2400!

see my.other post on.my 3rd radiator.
Also check the fluid to make sure there is not a head gasket leak..simple chemical test on the radiator fluid.

Victor, is this test something I can do? If so, what chemicals do I use?

George, you said I can live with it if I want. What if I am out in the middle of nowhere and it decides to go completely. If I live with it, is that a possibility?

Thanks for the replies,
Bob

Hi Victor,

I don't know about my possible problem yet. I decided that I did not like a leak no matter what, so today took it to a chevy dealer (a medium duty dealer) to have it checked out. The service writer said
it looked to him like a bad water pump. I kinda hope so, because the water pump would still be under warranty ($100 deductible). Will let you guys know how it comes out.

I just heard from the Chevy dealer and they say my possible problem is the radiator and I get no choice as to which replacement they use. The service writer said all they can do is get the part as requested from their parts department. I insisted that I wanted the Michigan built radiator, so we will have to see what is used.

I am having about $500 worth of service (LOF, differential, etc) and with that the total bill is coming out to just under $2000.

Does that include the R&R of the radiator and radiator itself? That seems like too cheap? The Radiator is about $600, shipping is $200 on it, labor is something like 12 book hours alone I think?

I should more about the exact radiator (part number) today when I pick up my coach.
